We all think of cakes for life’s big events, don’t we? Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries. But what about everyday things? Last day of school, a promotion at work, or even first time swimming without mom or dad’s help? Don’t those deserve a cake, too? Sure they do! But there’s just not always time to bake, plus there’s so much left over, right? Now you can easily enjoy the perfect cake for all life’s little occasions.
Duncan Hines recently introduced a new line of “Perfect Size” cakes that allow you to make just the right size cake for 2 to 4 people. These great tasting little cakes, found in your grocer’s baking aisle, are perfectly sized for a few people when a full size cake is just too much.
There are five delicious flavors from which to choose: Chocolate Lover’s (chocolate cake with chocolate frosting), Red Velvet Dream (red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting), Lemon Bliss (lemon cake with lemon frosting), Strawberries and Crème (strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting), and Golden Fudge (golden cake with chocolate frosting).
You’ll find Duncan Hines’ Perfect Size cakes in the baking aisle at your local grocery store. Each box comes with a complete kit for making a cake including cake mix, frosting mix, and a disposable 6-inch round pan. Simply prepare as directed for a moist and delicious cake topped with a rich, smooth and creamy frosting. There’s no need to purchase a special pan to make these perfectly sized cakes and as an extra bonus, there’s no pan to clean up!
I decided to try three of these little cakes as a start, the Chocolate Lovers’, Red Velvet, and Lemon Bliss – three of our favorite flavors. The cake mixes required butter, an egg, and a little water – all things that I always have on hand. The mixing took less than 5 minutes and they were ready to pop in the oven.
They came out looking great! I waited for them to cool completely (the hardest part!) and then prepared the frosting according to the package directions – mix together with a little butter and water – how hard is that?!
Now I will be the first to admit that I am no cake decorator. I’m lucky if I get the frosting on without all the layers sliding off the plate. That’s why you won’t find many layer cakes on Never Enough Thyme. However, these little cakes were easy as pie to frost. I even dressed them up a little bit. For the Red Velvet, I toasted a few pecans and sprinkled them on top. For the Chocolate Lovers, I sat that cake on a bed of mini white chocolate chips, and for the Lemon Bliss, I sat the cake on a circle of lemon slices and topped it with candied lemon peel. Now, you don’t have to do any of that – you can serve these exactly the way they are. I just felt like dressing them up a little :-).
The last thing I want to tell you about Duncan Hines Perfect Size cakes is this. They are delicious! They’re moist and have a wonderful texture and the frostings are perfectly paired with each cake layer. Make one today to celebrate whatever life throws your way!
