Have you noticed how certain recipes seem to make the rounds on the internet? For a while, it was the Magic Cake recipe. Then everywhere you looked, you saw the baked Ham and Cheese Sliders.

Another recipe you see often is for “fire crackers.” I love those things! They’re simply saltine crackers drenched in oil and seasoned with red pepper flakes. In a way, they remind me of the ranch oyster crackers we used to make.

These are a similar idea, yet distinctly different. They’re a combination of whole-grain Cheez-Its with spices and butter. You’ll enjoy them with soups and chili or just with a nice cold beverage as a snack.

  • Celery seed and garlic powder – Both seasonings really complement the cheese in the crackers.
  • Cayenne pepper – Adds a lovely spicy bite to the crackers. Feel free to adjust according to your taste. The 1/4 teaspoon I use in the recipe produces a mild amount of heat.
  • Butter
  • Bite-size cheese crackers – My choice for cheese crackers is always Cheez-It. Use either the original or whole grain in this recipe.

🥄 How to Make Spicy Cheese Crackers


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

  1. In a gallon size zip top bag, combine the celery seed, garlic powder, cayenne, and butter. Close the bag and use your hands to thoroughly mix the butter and spices.

  1. Add the crackers and toss gently until thoroughly coated. Take some time to make sure the butter and seasoning are evenly distributed throughout the crackers. Be careful not to break up the crackers.

  1. Spread the crackers on a baking sheet. Cook for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven and cool.
  3. Store in an airtight container.

🍚 How to Store


Store the completely cooled crackers at room temperature in an airtight container. They’ll last for about 5-6 days.

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon celery seed
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (or more according to your taste
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 ½ cups bite-size cheese crackers

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

    I have made tons of these crackers. I sprinkle a little extra cayenne pepper across the top of the crackers before I bake them. My family loves them. I give them away at Christmas time along with other goodies and cookies. Thanks for a great simple recipe.

    Not only is it quick, easy, and tasty (thank you very much!), but it makes wonderful croutons. Grab a handful and put them on a piece of wax paper. Fold over the wax paper and press lightly to break into smaller pieces. Use in a green salad or to top a scoop of chicken salad (which was what I had for lunch).

    I love, love, love snacks. Much more than sweets. I would devour that entire tray of crackers in about 30 minutes.
