Chocolate Little Layer Cake

A southern heritage recipe for Chocolate Little Layer Cake, a regional specialty from southwest Georgia. Tiny yellow cake layers filled with boiled chocolate frosting.

Ingredients -- Shortening -- Sugar -- Baking Chocolate -- Evaporated Milk -- Butter -- Vanilla -- Eggs -- Flour

Make the icing first - it's applied while warm to the layers.

Add the sugar, baking chocolate, evaporated milk, butter, and vanilla all at once to a heavy bottomed pan. Cook until the sugar is completely dissolved, stirring occasionally.

Make the cake batter.

Bake the tiny layers individually.

Frost each layer as it is removed from the pan and still warm.
