Hush Puppies

Crispy and crunchy on the outside with a tender, moist spicy interior, these Southern Hush Puppies with jalapeno are an absolute must with any kind of fried fish.


They’re quick and easy to make and are always the first thing to go at a down-home fish fry.

– peanut oil – all-purpose flour – cornmeal – baking powder – baking soda – jalapeno pepper – eggs – buttermilk


Place a deep skillet or Dutch oven on medium high heat and add the oil to a depth of about one inch.

While the oil is heating, add the dry ingredients (flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, salt and pepper) to a large mixing bowl. Mix well with a whisk.

Stir in the diced jalapeno pepper. Add the eggs to the buttermilk and mix well to combine.
