- Dark Chocolate – When purchasing cooking chocolate, the higher the percentage of cocoa, the more intense the chocolate flavor. Lindt’s 90% cocoa bar is ideal for this recipe.
- Oreo Thins – I used to use Nabisco’s chocolate wafers for this recipe, but sadly, they’ve been discontinued. I find the Oreo Thins to be the best substitute.
- Canola Oil – I use a small amount of canola oil to hold the crust together.
- Cream Cheese and Heavy Whipping Cream — This combination creates a silky, rich filling for the pie.
- Strawberries – Fresh, sweet strawberries are a beautiful and tasty topping for the pie. You could just as easily use fresh cherries or cherry jam.
- Seedless Strawberry Jam — Used as a glaze for the berries. Smucker’s makes a seedless strawberry jam, but if you can’t find that, you can always strain the jam through a fine-meshed sieve to remove the seeds.

How I Make Cream Cheese Pie with Chocolate Cookie Crust

- To get started, place the chopped dark chocolate in a small microwave safe bowl. Microwave it on high, stirring every 15 seconds, until the chocolate is melted (it takes about 45-60 seconds total).
- Next, put the chocolate cookies in a food processor and process until they’re finely ground.
- Add the melted chocolate and oil and pulse until thoroughly combined.

- Coat a 9-inch pie pan or a tart pan with cooking spray.
- Gently press the pie crust mixture evenly onto the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Place the crust in the freezer for 15 minutes to harden and set.
👉 PRO TIP: Use greased hands when placing the cookie crust into the pan. It is sticky! And be sure to press the crust firmly into the pie plate so it holds together when slicing.
- Meanwhile, whip the cream to soft peaks. Add the 3 tablespoons of sugar.

- In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, confectioner’s sugar, and vanilla.
👉 PRO TIP: Cream cheese mixes with other ingredients best if it’s at room temperature. Be sure to take the cream cheese out of the fridge at least 30 minutes before you start the recipe.
- Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
- Carefully spread the mixture over the chilled crust.

- Arrange the berries in an attractive pattern on top of the whipped cream and cream cheese mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- When ready to serve, heat the strawberry jam for 10-15 seconds in a small microwave-safe bowl. Brush the melted jam over the strawberries as a glaze.

👉 PRO TIP: You can easily substitute fresh cherries or raspberries for the strawberries.
Recipe Variations
- For chocolate lovers, try adding mini chocolate chips to the filling.
- Almost any berry makes a nice topping. Try blackberries, raspberries, or blueberries instead of strawberries.
- Sprinkle chopped toasted almonds or walnuts over the top.
Menu Suggestions
For a casual dinner, serve Grilled Boneless Chicken Thighs with Southern Potato Salad followed by cream cheese pie.
Include this pie as the finale of a celebration spread of Baked Ham, Perfect Potatoes au Gratin, and Southern Style Green Beans.
Or include it as a dessert for a summer barbecue with Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Coleslaw.
Storage Information
- Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge before serving.

Questions About Cream Cheese Pie with Chocolate Cookie Crust
Frozen berries don’t hold up well and tend to release quite a bit of liquid after they thaw. I recommend only using fresh berries for this recipe.
If you can’t find seedless jam, you can use regular strawberry jam and run it through a fine mesh strainer after it is heated.
For clean slices, use a sharp knife run under hot water and wipe it clean between cuts.

Can I use Oreo cookies for the crust?
I’m sure that would work if you remove the filling.
this pie gets me in the mood for summer!
Me too, Dina! And I’m so ready for some summer weather!
I could definitely go for a slice of that right now!
Oh ….. my…….. wow.
Miss P
I know, right :-)
Looks delicious! I just pinned but couldn’t tag you.
Seriously delicious! I love fresh strawberries especially in a dessert!
This is definitely my kind of dessert! I love using those chocolate wafers!!
Those chocolate wafers are good for so many different things, aren’t they? Especially a quick crust like this.
This is very similar to my favorite strawberry pie recipe from my aunt. Except hers uses a pressed in shortbread crust. I’m loving your chocolate crust version!!
I have one with the shortbread crust, too, Brenda! It’s so, so good. But I enjoy the chocolate for a change now and then.
looks delicious
Your pie sounds absolutely delicious! It looks gorgeous too :)
Thanks so much, Rosie!
Fresh strawberry pie is my all time favorite; I beat mascarpone cheese with whipped cream for a layer on top of the crust but have never tried chocolate wafers. I will now; love chocolate with strawberries and raspberries!
I used dark chocolate with the wafers this time and loved the contrast with the tart sweetness of the berries and smooth creamy filling. It was a perfect combination.
We love fresh strawberry pie. Fun to change it up with a chocolate crust.
Yes, it was! The grandkids really enjoyed it.
